I glanced at tne abstract but I did not purchase the working paper so I could not tell if the authors attempted to take other factors into account (such as social/economic status) that might influence the results. But, it seems more likely to me that there is a underlying factor that both health insurance status and obesity are linked to rather than there being a direct relation between those two.

I’m from washington state and we have a health care system for the poor in our state. Though our state doesn’t have enough money to cover everyone that qualifies. We also have some of the most progressive laws about alternative medicine. Though the state run program doesn’t cover any alternative medicine. If this health reform passes , we will lose our private insurance programs and the whole health care industry and especially the alternative medicine will lose all the gains they have made. The aging population that truly needs alternative medicine coverage will lose what they have. The worst part is that the one strong and healthy part of our economy will be destroyed and their will be noghing left of our economy to rebuild around. We need to slow down and at least wait until our economy is back running smoothly before we attempt health care reform.. The health care industry represents about 20 percent of the economy we can’t afford to lose the strength that it offers.
