Although I come across plenty of committed, effective therapists, I hear too many stories like this, especially when people try to get services from agencies. The social aspect that you bring up is a whole added dimension. I do know, though that there is good work going on at some VA offices. For example, they use trauma-focused treatment that often works, such as EMDR. But playing the game when dealing with people that don't get it... well, you already said it.

The frustration you've experienced in seeking real help is way too commonplace. Maybe you've been there, done that already, but there is a lot of know-how among the vet support groups and other groups as to how to get the best help you can from the system and elsewhere, and how to deal with inappropriate responses from agencies.

Best Regards,

Bob

Lol,

You won't get around govenernment requirements. You see, government requires us to rid ourselves of the psychology needed to be real people. The trouble is, obedience doesn't create. It never has. You won't find the goody two-shoes up the road making an amazing piece of art, he's too busy impressing the invisible dad....

To explain, if you were to remove Psychiatry, or convert it, you'll still have the little problem of economic margins and how the powers that be (whether politician or estate agent) deal with "being". You will still get people being driven into jobs that murder intelligence and routes-to-awareness and you will still get deep founded psychological problems due to it... Add to that a mixture of spiritual beliefs where one member of one culture has to rip a whole set of beliefs out of the ground very quickly for another set of beliefs and hey presto, mental health problems...

In fact, you assume psychology is different to psychiatry. It's all crooked nonsense. Wait until it's your turn for depression, where the idea that finding a big event in ones life and forcing forgetfulness is the only therapy you're entititled to. Wait until it's your turn for anxiety neurosis, where you're told to just increase the excercise. Wait until you're told you're not complying when the therapy was misplaced in the first place.

It's like Vietnam, "you weren't there, man".

Most professionals I've met simply disregard all my reports about the experience i've had. I've had to argue they are there over and over again. It's like we all share the same experience of life, the same thoughts and the same perception at the same time. It's simply not so. We group up according with those who've shared our experiences. We condemn or "reduce" those outside.

In fact, If I take what the "professional" doesn't quite get about it all, and learn to keep quiet about that in front of non-sufferer friends, hey presto, they like me again.

If I word the truth and explain it, whooom, they disappear......

It's about time someone started to listen to those who've been through it. Not, like you say, what it simply looks like to a mind without the first-hand experience.
